This is about our trip to Florida in February 2002 and some pics too! We left Newport on Feb 22 at 12 mn. Gased up at Cumberland Farms $13 in gas. We drove to CT where we gased up again, $15. Hannah and Devon slept most of the way as did Mom. We arrived in New York, very near the PA boarder around 7:30 and had breakfast at a Diner and were back on the road by 9 am. In Middleton VA, at 12:45 pm that following afternoon we had driven 712 miles. We gased up again there for 20.00. Reached Lexington VA at 7 pm Friday night the 22nd and stayed at the Ramada Inn. (Made Andy take me to a Wal-Mart too! Hannah needed stockings he he) Had dinner at their Mexican restaurant and Hannah and Devon took a swim in their indoor pool. Left the next morning at 6 am. Stopped in Damascus VA at 8:10 am for gas and oil check. $14.20. In Abington VA we stopped for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. (Our favorite place to eat on the road!) Fifty miles north of Macon Georgia we stopped for gas again, $17 and had a bite to eat at their Mc Donalds. We entered Jennings Fla at 6:35 pm that evening and had driven a total of 1613 miles. In Lake City, about 45 minutes south of Jennings (1666 miles) we stayed at a Best Western and had dinner that night at Ryan’s Steak House (the worst place we ate during our trip! We gased up again $14.00. In the am we ate next door at Bob Evans for breakfast and headed out at 7:45 am. We arrived in Lacanto Florida at around 11:30 that am and had quite the time to find Phyllis and Ed’s place. Had to stop at a service station for directions. Dropped Mom off there and headed out around 2:30 pm after we fed Hannah her lunch. We arrived in Spring Hill around 4 pm and had to call Pete twice for directions to his house and he still had to come and meet us at a 7/11! ! At Pete’s that first night we had spaghetti for dinner and Devon went swimming in the pool with Amber. It was bit chilly though. Not quite 70 degrees. On Tuesday, Feb 26th, we went to Busch Gardens for the whole day and that was hard to find too! Not very well marked on the highway. Devon rode the Montu right off with Dad. The tallest and longest inverted steel roller coaster in the world, Yikes! ! ! Track length is appox 3,983 feet and reaches speeds in excess of 60 mph with a max drop of 128 feet (nearly 13 stories high!) To say the least she was crying when she got off that one and it only lasted 3 minutes! ! Hannah threw her brand new bottle into the Rapid River ride while Daddy was trying to take a picture of Mommy and Devon. It was a long day, but we pretty much got to see the whole park, animals and the Budweiser Clydesdales and had a great time at their dolphin show too. Dad got to eat at the BBQ rib and chicken restaurant too! On Wednesday we headed out for Cape Coral to Tim and Sally’s. It took exactly 3 and ½ hours to get there from Pete’s. We arrived around 12:30 and had spaghetti again! ! (Not one of Daddy’s favorite meals, but the rest of us loved it!) Mommy did some shopping in Cape Coral, actually she did quite a lot, I think she hit Wal-Mart at least 5 times, but it could have been more, we lost count. On Friday, Dad took Devon and Melissa to Fort Myers Beach and it was actually warm enough for them to go swimming in the ocean for a bit! ! We all went out to eat Saturday night and it was delicious. On Sunday we left for Daytona. Took just about 3 hours to get there and then we couldn’t find Nova Road, where Heather lives! Then when we found it she wasn’t home! We got in through the back door though. Tuesday, March 5, Mom and Dad and Hannah went to St. Augustine and spent the night at Howard’s Inn and had a room facing the ocean. It was a great place, but it was FREEZING! Too cold to enjoy their nice pool. Wed night we went out to eat at Heather’s “Red Lobster” it was delicious!! The next morning we headed home, oh that night we went to Main Street Daytona, BIKES BIKES BIKES! Devon and Hannah on the ape, Busch Gardens, Feb 2002! Devon, Andy and Tim, Dinner out.
